Powhatan County is accepting applications from qualified candidates to serve as the County’s Building Plan Reviewer.  This position is responsible for reviewing building plans and performing building inspections, when needed, to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances. Primary duties include plan review, investigation of proposed building sites for shrink-swell soils, providing assistance to citizens and contractors regarding the review and inspection process, and other duties as required. This position reports to the Building Official.

This position requires a knowledge and competency associated with building plan review; shall have at least three years of experience in building construction, fire or housing inspections, to include field work in plumbing, electrical and mechanical trades or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  High school degree mandatory; additional training or education strongly preferred.  Certifications in Plan Review for residential and commercial plan review must be obtained from DHCD, one within eighteen months and the second within thirty-six months of employment.  May be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the Building Official.
