Friends of the Library

A Great Library Needs Great Friends!

The Friends of the Powhatan County Public Library is a group of dedicated community members that help to expand, enhance, and promote the public image of the library. The Friends raise funds that are used to supplement the library budget for programming, staff enrichment, and other activities that engage patrons.

Friends also advocate for the library by:

  • Writing letters of support
  • Volunteering at events
  • Promoting library services
  • Voting to support building projects or funding measures for the library

Donate

The Friends are accepting book donations at this time, however storage space may be limited. Please call the library at 804-598-5670 if you have more than two boxes to donate.

Friends accept donations of "gently" used books, DVDs, music CDs, and audiobooks. Unfortunately we cannot accept:

  • Books that are damaged, mildewed, stained, or musty
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed books
  • Encyclopedias
  • Textbooks
  • Magazines

Volunteer

The Friends are in need of (and always welcome) a few able-bodied volunteers who can help set sort and shelve for the Friends Book Shop among other things. This work may involve lifting and stacking heavy boxes of books. Please email if you’re interested in helping!

Beginning in early summer of 2018 the Friends of the Library began a small permanent bookstore located in the library in lieu of their biannual book sale. The Friends of the Library Book Shop is located between the main circulation desk and the library's deck door.
