Powhatan County Fire & Rescue Chief Phil Warner has announced his retirement effective September 30, 2024. Chief Warner has dedicated over thirty years of service to the county, including the past five years at the helm of the department. We are very proud of his accomplishments during this time frame and wish him well as he moves into a well-earned retirement. He will continue to be a familiar face in the community as he returns to his role as a volunteer firefighter at the Fine Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Effective October 1, 2024, Deputy Chief Taylor Goodman will be appointed as the Interim Fire Rescue Chief. Chief Goodman has served the county since 1992, including his role as the Deputy Chief for the past three years. The County will continue to move forward with ongoing projects such as the Company 1 firehouse expansion, budget development, hiring processes, and new equipment acquisitions with the leadership of Deputy Chief Goodman.
The County is now accepting applications for the position of Fire & Rescue Chief. The position is open until filled; however, the County expects to conduct a first round of interviews in November.
