Non-Discrimination

It is the policy of the Board of Social Services to assure that the benefits, services, employment practices and operations of the Department are provided without regard to race, color, national origin, disability, sex, age, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation, pregnancy or health condition, marital or family composition or status. The terms discrimination, employer, employee, client, recipient, parent, child, dependent, caretaker, family, household, budget unit or assistance unit shall conform with applicable service, benefit and employment programs, laws and regulations including, but not limited to: Governor’s Executive Order 1 (2006), Equal Employment Opportunity Act, Age Discrimination Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Medicaid Program, Child Welfare Services, Adult Services and Virginia Department of Social Services.

The Department maintains a permanent EEO/AA Review Committee.

Complaints

Complaints regarding benefit or service program discrimination are referred to the Manager of the applicable program unit. Complaints regarding employment discrimination are referred to the Director who is the Department’s EEO/AA officer. All such complaints and resolutions are reported in full to the Board and appropriate State or Federal agencies as required.
